Why I Recommend it

Forest Lodge has a way of making you feel like you're part of the bush, rather than simply looking at it. The glass suites blur the line between indoors and outdoors, and as darkness falls, the sounds of the African night surround you from every direction. Lying in bed listening to distant lions calling, hyenas whooping and the chorus of insects is pure magic, and one of those experiences that reminds you you're in the heart of wild Africa.

Over several visits, I've been fortunate enough to enjoy some incredible wildlife sightings here of cheetah, lion, and encountering the endangered and iconic black rhino. These are just a few of the moments that have made Phinda one of my favourite safari destinations in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Another feature I love is the lodge's beautifully designed dining deck. Set just above ground level, it creates a wonderful sense of being immersed in the surrounding bush. Whether you're enjoying breakfast as nyala wander past, or sharing stories over dinner while wildlife moves quietly through the forest around you, you never feel separated from nature. Instead, you feel like you're witnessing the rhythm of the bush unfold all around you.

When dinner is served in the boma, the lodge takes on a completely different character. With the fire glowing, lanterns lighting the space, and the sounds of the bush all around you, it creates one of those quintessential African safari evenings that you'll remember long after you've returned home.
